Not perfect, but Better
When I switched to an insulin pump over 20 years ago, I was instantly astounded at how profoundly it improved my life. I was also aghast. “Why didn’t someone tell me to do this a long time ago??!” So I decided to tell someone. I wrote, designed and illustrated BETTER IS BETTER to help people get past the hesitation and real fears of adopting the insulin pump to treat their diabetes. First published when only about 10% of Type 1 diabetics used an insulin pump, doctors were hesitant, patients even more so. Since then, almost 800,000 copies of the booklet have been passed out. THE BOOK OF BETTER Life With Diabetes Can’t Be Perfect, Make It Better (Random House U.S., Harper Collins Canada) was the next step in honest authentic communication to inspire those living with diabetes, bringing encouragement and humor to a challenge that often lacks either. Creating and sharing these materials has been a remarkable process of discovery and education.
